The Blackview A53 is an affordable entry-level smartphone released along with the Blackview A53 Pro.
The A-series was designed for price-conscious buyer who wants an affordable phone that offers basic features.
Few weeks ago, the rugged phone maker released the Blackview Oscal C80 which shares similar design language to the A53.
Overall, the A53 is pretty much a basic smartphone with no standout feature apart from it’s battery capacity.
From its average display to mediocre performance and low storage topped with subpar cameras and other features.

Design
Although, Blackview is renowned for its rugged design, the Blackview A53 wears a modern design with slim profile that delivers more-than-comfortable grip.
The back cover has a unique pattern design built on sophisticated laser-carving process that evoke a mesmerizing colour gradient.
The back panel arrived with a rectangular triple camera island positioned on the top left corner and the blackview branding inscribe at the bottom beneath it.
The chassis material is made of plastic back and glass front clipped together by plastic frame.
However, the edges are relatively thick at 9.4mm thickness and robust but still finds a way of staying comfortable in-hand at 164.6 x 76.9mm dimension.
With a big power grid beneath, it still manages to stay light at 193 grams weight.
Speaking of protection, you won’t getting any biometric scanner nor glass protection. There’s also no IP certification for drops, water or even scratches.
Just like with other regular entry-level phones, the placements and buttons are sited on their usual spots.
The device arrives in Rock Grey, Starry Blue, and Murky Black colour options.
Display
On the front is a 6.5-inch water-drop display with easy-on-the-eye IPS panel that ensures apt content quality and 720 x 1600 pixel resolution.
The standard 60Hz refresh rate won’t be enough for buttery-smooth navigation.
However, the HD display resolution delivers vivid colours and captivating brightness consolidated with a 450 nits brightness to ensure content clarity for outdoor use.
Furthermore, it’s seemingly thick bezel provides an 80.6% screen-to-body ratio while staying locked to a 270 PPI pixel density.
Camera
Compared to Blackview A52’s camera setup, there’s quite an improvement with a leap from dual to triple rear camera.
The main camera is fitted with a 12MP sensors that does pretty average in bright light but struggles when it comes to the low-light.
The camera app performs poorly in lowlights and render noisy shot in low-lit environment. Also, the grains are very visible, which makes the overall camera processing disappointing.
Despite having two extra unidentified sensors attached to the main sensor, they are just for there as fill up on paper.
On the front is 5MP lens that delivers decent shots in well-lit environment.
For videos, recording is pegged on 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). There are different camera modes and features such as HDR, panorama, beauty mode and a host of others.
Hardware and Software
Under the hood is a 5-year-old entry-level Mediatek Helio A22 chipset based on 12nm fabrication process seen on Tecno Pop 7 Pro.
The Quad-core chipset with maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz offers smooth processing on basic task but don’t expect much for medium or heavy task.
For gaming, the PowerVR GE8320 ensure smooth running of low end graphical content.
For storage, a 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM is paired to a 16GB eMMC 5.0 storage with up to 128GB of expandable storage option via microSD card.
The A53 boots on Blackview’s Doke OS 3.0 UI based on Android 12 operating system.
Battery
It is not unusual to see a massive battery configuration on Blackview’s phones which seems to be one of its selling points.
Here, the A53 is fuelled with a 5080 mAh battery which is slightly bigger than the conventional battery size.
The battery is juiced with a standard 10W charging brick.
Connectivity
For connectivity, it’s pretty a 4G LTE phone supported with dual SIM usage and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac for wireless network accessibility.
It’s so pleasing to see a 3.5 mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0, built-in GPS, and a USB Type-C port for data transfer and charging.
Blackview A53 Price and Availbility
The price of Blackview A53 price starts at $99. In Nigeria, the Blackview A53 price in Nigeria is sold at about ‎₦50,000.
The smartphone was announced and released in March 2023.
