The Google Pixel 7a is a mid-range budget Android phone that succeeds to the Pixel 6a.
The Pixel 7a comes with an OLED display with dual-rear camera setup.
It performance is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 processor alongside an 8GB RAM and 128GBb built-in storage.
Battery life is decent with 4385 mAh battery with 18W wired charging support.

Design
Design-wise, the Google Pixel 7a resembles it sibling, the Pixel 7, although smaller in size.
The rear wears a plastic back and an aluminum frame running round the edges.
The Pixel 7a measures 152 x 72.9 x 9 mm in dimensions while weighing 193.5 g, hence smaller which makes for a compact and comfortable one hand use.
The most noticeable improvement in this phone compare to the Pixel 6 is the camera bar which Google calls “3D metal visor”.
Though it’s still made of aluminum, but now slimmer with matte finish. There’s the Google “G” branding at the middle of the rear panel.
The frame offers IP67 rating, making it dust and waterproof but sadly, no 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Pixel 7a is available in coral, sea, charcoal and snow colour finishes.
Display
Upfront is a cozy 6.1-inch OLED display with hairline bezels around it.
The display which is 0.3mm smaller than the Pixel 7, has a resolution of 1080 x 2400px and a 90Hz refresh rate.
This results in sharp, vibrant visual experience with smoother animations and scrolling experience.
The display bears a hole-punch cut-out at the center top for selfie camera.
That’s not all, the display bags High Dynamic Range (HDR) support and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for added durability and protection.
Camera
The Pixel 7a is fitted with a dual camera with 64MP as it’s main camera, and it’s supported by a 13MP ultrawide camera.
The main camera is armed with Dual Pixel Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) technology which ensures fast and precise focusing an Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to trim down the impact of hand movements, resulting in blur-free shots, even in challenging shooting conditions.
Furthermore, the supporting shooter has a 120˚ field of view, which offers a wide coverage that adds depth to your photos.
Although, this smartphone does not feature a telephoto camera, it does have 2x digital zoom, though, this may not be the best.
Flipping to the front, the Pixel 7a is treated with a 13MP front camera which sit comfortably in a hole-punch cut-out for selfie shots.
Hardware and Software
Powering the Pixel 7a, is the company’s own processor, the Google Tensor G2 built on a 5nm process technology.
This chipset is also found in the more advanced Google Pixel 7, the Google Pixel 7 Pro line-up and also the Google Pixel Fold.
The octa-core chip which is supported by Mali-G710 MC10 GPU and Titan M2 security chip provides faster performance as well as improved security and image quality.
In addition, the phone comes with 8GB RAM storage and 128GB of UFS 3.1 built-in storage but lacks external storage support.
The Google Pixel 7a boots on the company’s own mobile operating system, Android 13.
Connectivity
The device supports Nano-SIM and eSIM with 5G network connectivity.
It also supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS system, NFC and USB Type-C 3.2.
There is no radio and audio jack support.
Battery
Fuelling the Pixel 7a is a 4385 mAh battery, which is considerably smaller than most mid-range smartphones in the market.
On the bright side, this battery supports 18W wired fast charging and 7.5W wireless charging.
Google Pixel 7a Price and Availability
The price of Google Pixel 7a starts at $500. In Nigeria, the Pixel 7a 5G price starts at about ₦270,000.
The device was announced on May 10, 2023 and it’s available for purchase.
