Oneplus Nord N20 5G

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a smooth and affordable 5G smartphone.

The smartphone is also the 5G edition of the Nord N20 SE.

Although it’s specs looks very competitive with an AMOLED display, distinctive design and 33W Super VOOC charging but don’t expect a flagship photography experience.

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G introduces a uniquely beautiful design with solid build and flat edges.

Talking about the build, it is carved from a combo of plastic body and glass front that looks so premium even in a plastic body.

The rear wears a refined smooth texture with shimmering effect when light hits the surface at certain angles.

However, to prevent slipping through the fingers, it is covered in matte finish resistant to fingerprints and smudges.

The rear isn’t concluded without a mention on the four circular modules with metal rings around the larger two that looks to delightful to behold.

Beneath the camera lenses is inscribed “64MP ultrashot” while the OnePlus branding take the middle spot.

With an incredibly lightweight profile at 173 grams, its body dimensions is not wide in the hand at 159.9 x 73.2 x 7.5 mm, which makes it relatively easy to use one-handed.

Ordinarily, you’d expect a smaller screen for a budget-tier phone.

However the OnePlus Nord N20 5G comes with a modest 6.43-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution.

As with other budget phones in this category, it comes with a trade off which is the 60Hz refresh rate yet the AMOLED technology complement this with punchier colours and better viewing angles.

Howbeit, it still somehow managed to pull out a decent peak brightness level of 1205 lux with HDR10+ support and a pixel density of 409 ppi.

That’s indeed crazily awesome for a budget-tier smartphone, stamping out a few flagships in the process.

Not left out is the Infinity-O design, which is a small hole-punch cutout at the top left, and a sleek in-display fingerprint sensor.

All wrapped in a layer of Schott Xensation Up glass protection for extra durability and scratch resistance.

Though I praised the design aesthetic of the camera module, will the lens come out good?

The triple camera on the back is headlined by a 64MP main shooter with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and no ultra-wide lens.

Instead you get a wide-angle lens despite ultrashort inscribed beneath the lens.

The main camera uses pixel binning technology to produce sharper and brighter 16MP shots in well-lit environment.

The other two accompanying cameras at basically cosmetic with 2MP each for macro and depth sensor which provide zero value to the image quality.

The camera also features several camera modes such as HDR, panorama mode and LED flash.

Videos are recorded up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second (fps) and slow-motion video at 120 fps at 720p resolution.

The infinity-O cut-out is home to a 16MP wide camera with HDR feature for enhanced selfie and 1080p video recording.

Overall, the cameras perform decently in well-lit environment while in low-light condition the camera performance is a bit underwhelming with washed out images, noticeable noise and grain.

Hardware and Software

For hardware, OnePlus Nord N20 5G packs modest improvement over the Nord N10 from Snapdragon 690 to Snapdragon 695 5G chipset.

The 6nm Octa-core processor paired with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM alongside 128GB UFS 2.2 built-in storage.

In addition, the smartphone supports additional storage of up to 512GB using a microSD card. So you can save much more without worrying about limited storage.

For non-gamers, the performance is more than adequate for basic functions such as surfing the internet, text and other low to moderate task.

For software, the Nord N20 5G breathes on the company’s OxygenOS 11 user interface based on Android 11 operating system.

The budget smartphone features include a 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi, dual nano-SIM, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and blazing-fast 5G connectivity.

Powering the Nord N20 5G is a 4500 mAh battery that supports 33W Super VOOC fast charging.
