Asus Zenfone 7 Pro: Specifications, Price and Review

Asus Zenfone 7 Pro Specs, price and review

The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is another mid-range powerhouse, built to defy the norms and make the impossible, possible.

The Zenfone series from the stable of Asus has been a solid contender in the affordable flagship category. The real difference between the ZenFone 7 pro and it’s less premium sibling ZenFone 7, is it performance power, bigger storage and camera, aside this, all other feature are the same with the standard variant.

Design and Display

The design, display and built makeup are pretty the same with the standard Zenfone 7 which is an iteration of what we saw on the Asus Zenfone 6.

The makeup feature an all glass build bonded by aluminum sheet. The glass upfront is wrapped in Corning gorilla glass 6 while a layer of Corning’s 3D Curved Gorilla Glass 3 offer some protection on the rear.

The flipside is that it does not offer resistance for dust and water, which is something the Oneplus 8 pro offers, for about the same price range.

On the backside, it showcase a beefy module occupied by it’s motorized triple flip cameras and the brand name, indicating it’s an Asus smartphone.

Moving on the front is a 6.67 inch Super AMOLED NanoEdge display with a responsive 90 Hz refresh rate. The all-screen NanoEdge display has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 is devoid of selfie cutout or notch, thanks to the flipping camera mechanism.

This display maintains same dimensions and weight with the standard model as well as the all-in-one command, integrating the side mounted fingerprint sensor and the much-loved smart key into the power button.

The flip mechanism is the same with less premium variant with an 18-layer flexible printed circuit (FPC) cable with 110 signal outputs, allows the Flip Camera system to endure “up to 200,000” flips which is twice the number of rated flips for the ZenFone 6.

The Cameras

The Asus ZenFone 7 Pro camera is a replica of it’s less premium sibling, the Zenfone 7, the only difference here is it optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main and telephoto cameras, which is lacking on the less premium one.

The triple array motorized flip cameras features a 64MP Sony IMX686 main camera with with an aperture of f/1.8 and OIS.

Images from the main snapper are pixel-binned down to 16MP resolution and are stabilized with OIS.

The other members of the trio include a secondary 12MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide lens with an aperture of f/2.2 ultrawide and 113-degree field of view, and a tertiary 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom as well as 12x digital zoom and OIS.

The device can record in up to 8K high resolution videos at 30fps with EIS, slow-motion at up to 4K UHD ultrawide-angle recording at 120fps, and HyperSteady at up to 1080p at 60fps.

The motorized flip camera system feature as both the rear and also the selfie camera.

Hardware and Software

The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro packs a high-end Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset which is seen on Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The chipset is paired with an octa-core processor and an Andreno 650 overclocked at 3.1GHz and a 10% speed-binned GPU.

The Pro got the same ZenUI 7 skin running on the Android 10 operating system for fluidity and responsiveness of the smartphone.

You get an 8GB LPDDR5 RAM paired with bigger 256GB UFS 3.1 ROM, in contrast with the 128GB storage on the former. The storage is still expandable by up to 2TB using a microSD card.

Like the Zenfone 7, the Pro does not support 3.5mm headphone jack that we had on the Zenfone 6, however, like the standard model it feature dual nano SIM with 5G connectivity alongside Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, Wi-Fi 6 and dual-frequency GNSS support.
